1 | 5 745 365 | Web monitoring for paper machines | An apparatus for web monitoring in paper making machines comprises a row of two or more lookers (6, 8) which are spaced across the width of the moving paper web. Each looker is stationery, and continuously inspects one or more small areas of the web as the web passes beneath. Optical signals from each individual inspection area are digitized, and spatial filtering is used to remove from the signals the effects of variations in the web which are much larger or much smaller than the variations being studied. A number of power spectra are calculated from the spatially filtered signals, and analysis of these functions is then used to identify significant features. Plots or tables of such features can be used to provide detailed information for the machine operator on the types of variations that are occurring in the paper web, and the possible causes of these variations. | Mon, 27 Apr 1998 | A | John Heyer Paper Ltd. | John Russell Parker |
2 | 4 938 601 | Optical web monitoring device with row cameras with directed illumination | An optical web monitoring device is described for which a directed illumination is realized by means of a mirror strip which fully illuminates the pupil of the camera objective of a diode row camera with the image of the illuminating pupil. All contrasting methods can thus be used also for the finding of surface faults in running webs. Several cameras or one camera with pupil division and two diode rows can be simultaneously illuminated using one illuminating device. | Mon, 2 Jul 1990 | A | Erwin Sick GmbH Optik-Elektronik | Klaus Weber |
3 | 4 775 238 | Optical web monitoring apparatus | An optical web monitoring apparatus has an illuminating arrangement which images the pupil of the source of illumination into the observing pupil of the camera objective (18) of a diode row camera using a strip-like concave mirror (14), or two strip-like concave mirrors (14, 15), and thus achieves the maximum attainable light yield. The construction is realized such that a fault seeking apparatus with a laser scanner can be used at the same time using the same mirror strips (14, 15). Thus two monitoring operations can be carried out simultaneously. | Mon, 3 Oct 1988 | A | Erwin Sick GmbH Optik-Elektronik | Klaus Weber |
4 | 4 186 309 | Web monitoring and control apparatus for web handling machinery | An improved web monitoring and control apparatus is disclosed for use with web handling machinery, such as printing presses and the like which are of the type that have a generally continuous web of material being printed or otherwise processed. The apparatus directs modulated infrared energy onto the web and detects the reflection of the energy from the web. The apparatus detects the occurrence of a web break and shuts down the machinery. The apparatus includes an automatic arming control which activates the apparatus when the machinery moves the web at some preselected percentage of its total speed and also includes apparatus for detecting when the detector lens has become soiled and provides a warning to the operators that conditions are approaching which may result in a false web break detection which would shut down the machinery. | Mon, 28 Jan 1980 | A | Web Printing Controls Co. 1 | DiAs Web Monitoring: A Real-Time Remote Monitoring System Designed for Artificial Pancreas Outpatient Trials | Background: Developments in an artificial pancreas (AP) for patients with type 1 diabetes have allowed a move toward performing outpatient clinical trials. “Home-like” environment implies specific protocol and system adaptations among which the introduction of remote monitoring is meaningful. We present a novel tool allowing multiple patients to monitor AP use in home-like settings. Methods: We investigated existing systems, performed interviews of experienced clinical teams, listed required features, and drew several mockups of the user interface. The resulting application was tested on the bench before it was used in three outpatient studies representing 3480 h of remote monitoring. Results: Our tool, called DiAs Web Monitoring (DWM), is a web-based application that ensures reception, storage, and display of data sent by AP systems. Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and insulin delivery data are presented in a colored chart to facilitate reading and interpretation. Several subjects can be monitored simultaneously on the same screen, and alerts are triggered to help detect events such as hypoglycemia or CGM failures. In the third trial, DWM received approximately 460 data per subject per hour: 77% for log messages, 5% for CGM data. More than 97% of transmissions were achieved in less than 5 min. Conclusions: Transition from a hospital setting to home-like conditions requires specific AP supervision to which remote monitoring systems can contribute valuably. DiAs Web Monitoring worked properly when tested in our outpatient studies. It could facilitate subject monitoring and even accelerate medical and technical assessment of the AP. It should now be adapted for long-term studies with an enhanced notification feature. | Medicine | 2013 | 43

3 | Toward intelligent Web monitoring: performance of committee neural networks vs. single neural network | The development of communication technologies has created opportunities for Web monitoring and home care in medical practice. Due to voluminous data involved in Web based home care, intelligent systems are needed to identify if physician alert is needed and to identify the data that needs to be transmitted. Neural networks are generally used as intelligent tools, but the reliability of a single network may be questionable. In the presented study, the technique of committee neural networks for intelligent Web monitoring was developed, and the reliability of the committee neural networks was evaluated in relation to single networks. The committee neural networks based on a majority opinion of its member networks provided 100% correct results. On the other hand, individual networks proved to be less reliable and provided less than 100% correct results. Committee neural networks with a majority voting offer powerful potential tools for intelligent Web monitoring using home care devices. | Computer Science, Medicine | 2000 | 13
4 | StreamWeb: Real-Time Web Monitoring with Stream Computing | A new trend involves Web services such as Twitter beginning to publish streaming Web APIs that enable partners and end users to retrieve streaming data. By combining such push-based Web services and existing pull-based Web services, it is now possible for us to understand the current status or trends of the world in a more real-time way, such as real-time tracking of infectious disease, real-time crime prediction, or real-time marketing, and so various innovative business services are possible. For a system architecture to implement such services, the services are normally built from the scratch, and the performance and scalability depend upon the engineers' skills. In this paper we propose a real-time Web monitoring system called gStreamWebh on top of a stream computing system called System S developed by IBM Research. The Stream Web system allows developers to easily describe their analytical algorithms for a variety of kinds of Web streaming data without worrying about the performance and scalability, and provides real-time and scalable Web monitoring for massive amounts of data. As an experimental proof-of-concept application, we built an application that monitors a list of keywords in the Twitter streaming data, and that displays any messages including the specified keywords onto a map of the physical location (from Google) where the message was posted. Our system can handle nearly 30 thousand Twitter messages per second on a system with 8 computing nodes. This prototype application confirms that we can build real-time Web monitoring systems while satisfying the needs for high software productivity and for system scalability. | Computer Science | 2011 | 12
5 | Research of the embedded dynamic web monitoring system based on EPA protocol and ARM Linux | Combining with the characteristic of web technology and field working requirement, Embedded Web Server (EWS) integrates the information acquisition and diffusion into the field embedded measurement and control equipments by the standard interface and communication protocol. And the EWS in the equipments can provide the browser-based operation and control interface through internet. Ethernet for Plant Automation (EPA) is the first standard in the industrial automation field of china, which has been accepted and published by international standard organization and has been included in Type 14 of the fourth IEC61158 Fieldbus. Taking the high-adaptability and high-reliability of embedded system for the special work requirements in industrial field, a dynamic web monitoring system based on EPA protocol under embedded ARM Linux operating system has been designed and developed in this paper, which using common gateway interface(CGI) and script service program XSP to realize the information acquisition and real-time monitoring of EPA devices. It can meet the remote monitoring requirements of the enterprise production process and improve its productive efficiency and management level. | Computer Science | 2009 | 8
6 | Biological, Chemical, and Nutritional Food Risks and Food Safety Issues From Italian Online Information Sources: Web Monitoring, Content Analysis, and Data Visualization | Background With rapid evolution of the internet and web 2.0 apps, online sources have become one of the main channels for most people to seek food risk information. Thus, it would be compelling to analyze the coverage of online information sources related to biological, chemical, and nutritional food risks, and related safety issues, to understand the type of content that online readers are exposed to, possibly influencing their perceptions. Objective The aim of this study was to identify the types of online sources that are predominantly covering this theme, and the topics that have received the most attention in terms of coverage and engagement on social media. Methods We performed an analysis of big data related to food risks by combining web monitoring techniques, content analysis, and data visualization of a large amount of unstructured text. Using a dictionary-based approach, a web monitoring app was instructed to automatically collect web content referring to the food risk and safety field. Data were retrieved from March 2017 to February 2018. The validated corpus (N=12,163) was subject to automatic and manual content analysis. Results were combined with descriptive statistics extracted from Web-Live and processed with Qlik Sense. Results Nutritional risks and news about outbreaks, controls, and alerts were the most widely covered topics. Thematic sources devoted major attention to nutritional topics, whereas national sources covered food risks, especially during food emergencies. Regarding engagement on social media, readers’ interest was higher for nutritional topics and animal welfare. Although traditional sources still publish a great amount of content related to food risks and safety, new mediators have emerged as alternative sources for food risk information. Conclusions This mixed methodological approach was demonstrated to be a useful means for obtaining an accurate characterization of the online discourse on food risks, and can provide insight into how the monitored sources contribute to the process of risk communication. | Computer Science, Medicine | 2020 | 5
7 | Web Monitoring 2.0: Crossing Streams to Satisfy Complex Data Needs | Web Monitoring 2.0 supports the complex information needs of clients who probe multiple information sources and generate mashups by integrating across these volatile streams. A proxy that aims at satisfying multiple customized client profiles will face a scalability challenge in trying to maximize the number of clients served while at the same time fully satisfying complex client needs. In this paper, we introduce an abstraction of complex execution intervals, a combination of time intervals and information streams, to capture complex client needs. Given some budgetary constraints (e.g., bandwidth), we present offline algorithmic solutions for the problem of maximizing completeness of capturing complex profiles. | Computer Science | 2009 | 5
